Vacuum Trucks
If your business has hazardous or nonhazardous liquid waste that needs to be cleaned up, vacuum trucks may be the appropriate solution to your waste management concerns.
What Is a Vacuum Truck
Vacuum trucks are vehicles that are used to clean out liquid waste in an efficient manner. They are most often used in emptying tanks and cleaning pipes, but they are also used in emergency spill cleanups of hazardous materials and even in cave-in rescue missions.
Industries That Benefit from Vacuum Trucks
The following are a few of the industries that use vacuum trucks:
- Utilities
- Chemical and Specialty Chemical
- Oil and Gas
- Refinery
- Construction
- Engineering
- Mining Industry
How Vacuum Trucks Work
The same general principles that allow your household vacuum cleaner to work are employed in vacuum trucks. A powerful pump pulls air out of the body of the truck, which creates a vacuum force.
Vacuum trucks have valves with a lance attached that unleash that vacuum force. When the lance is pointed at the liquid waste and a valve is opened, the “vacuum force in the tank tries to equalize itself with the outside atmosphere and sucks up any fluids or liquids present.”
Performance Considerations
In order for the vacuum truck to function at its most efficient, there are several components that must be performing at their best.
- Valves: Should be free of leaks
- Air Seals: Should fit snugly, thus keeping air out when the vacuum truck is in operation
- Vacuum Pump: Should have enough power to collect the waste in question
