Rolloff Boxes

Rolloff boxes are long, open containers that are convenient means of storage and removal for bulky wastes. These open boxes can be as small as 10 yards long or as large as 40 yards and they can also come with locking lids that keep out the elements and secure the contents from unauthorized persons. The size and type of rolloff box that your company selects will depend on your particular waste management needs.

What Goes Inside

Rolloff dumpsters are most frequently rented to companies by private waste management companies, so they are not subject to the same rules as municipal dumpsters. Once you have rented the rolloff box, you have fewer restrictions on its contents than those of a public dumpster.

With that said, there are certain materials that cannot go into a rolloff box. These do vary by the waste management company that you are renting from and the state where your business operates, but the general premise is that if the material poses a threat to people or animals that could easily come into contact with it (via the open top) or if the materials would permanently change the appearance or use of the dumpster, you cannot store that waste inside. For example, explosive items and other forms of hazardous waste is not appropriate.

Difference Between Rolloff Boxes and Dumpsters

Rolloff boxes and dumpsters are similar, but there are distinct differences between them.

  • Tops: Rolloffs have open tops to make waste disposal easier. Dumpsters usually have a lid
  • Wheels: Dumpsters usually do not have wheels, because they are made to be lifted by municipal garbage trucks. Rolloff boxes do have wheels, and their transportation requires a truck specifically for rolloff boxes.
  • Kinds of Waste: What you put in a rolloff box is not the same as what goes into a dumpster. Rolloff boxes often accommodate waste from construction and home improvement projects.
