Waste management in the state of Iowa is governed by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Iowa is one of just two states that does not have authorization by the EPA to carry out the implementation and enforcement of RCRA hazardous waste management programs as detailed in Subsection C, and thus, it defers to the EPA on these matters. It does have EPA authorization to implement and enforce other parts of the RCRA, though, and it has the liberty to make its own regulations, provided that these are at least as strict as federal ones and are federally approved.
Due to the industries present in Iowa, the state has some waste management needs that are emphasized more than others:
Railcar spill cleanup:
Iowa has nearly 4,000 miles of freight railroad tracks, carrying more than 6 million carloads of cargo. Clean Management can assist in the cleanup of any railcar spills.
Advanced manufacturing in Iowa contributes three times more than the agriculture industry, and it continues to expand. To keep workers safe, training in OSHA compliance is essential.
